Purpose of the Post High School, Pre College Program:
The focus of this program is to enhance and fill in the missing skills, knowledge, and attitudes that many employers say are lacking in today’s high school and college grads. Therefore, it is critical to not only get a head start before going to college but equally as well for those not going to college or those going onto technical two-year STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) programs, or any kind of post-secondary education / training.
What you will gain from this program:
- A focused, clear understanding of self to create an accurate match with education / training to meet client’s goals and aspirations
- An understanding of client’s values and life needs to enhance client / career match, enhancing overall life fulfillment and productivity
- An understanding of the current work environment, changes and pitfalls to enable greater adaptability during times of change
- Enhancement of essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes to optimize achievement in career and life
- Networking, interviewing, and resume writing skills
According to surveys, over 50% of those working are dissatisfied with their jobs. In a recent Time magazine survey, that number was as high as 70%! That is a LOT of untapped resources, for how is one expected to optimize their effectiveness at any time if living in a constant state of dissatisfaction.
The reason for this unfulfillment is manifold, but a great deal of this failure lies in education that is not student centered but rather focuses on the needs of outside groups and organizations. In addition, today’s education is outdated and missing a great portion of what the modern workforce requires.
Today, nearly one-third of high school students drop out. Of those graduating, seventy percent go onto college. But even of those who stay in high school and go onto college, a college degree alone does not ensure success. Consider that the average college student changes her major three times. There is just WAY too much guessing, basing one of life’s most important, and now most expensive events on very inexact thinking.
With the cost of post-secondary education skyrocketing in the last ten years, along with the marked increase in job turnover and market volatility, it is more important than ever to make well thought out, informed, exact decisions to avoid running into excessive lost time and debt that all too often today is life consuming.
Inner Projection’s programs enable the client to not only see where she is going, but where she has been. She will understand what her secondary and post-secondary education provides or lacks or those skills, knowledge, and attitudes missing that are critical for most careers. The program centers on the client’s individual or personal needs as well as general skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for today’s workforce.
Some coaching programs use rigorous assessments and testing producing dozens of pages that allegedly clarify the specific needs of the client enabling a close match between client and career. All too frequently, this is overkill. Einstein stated that the best solutions are simple, no more no less. In regards to essential understanding of the self (talents, abilities, gifts, learning style, personality type) they can be discovered through simple tests. Ultimately, the answers can confirmed using the most reliable source: the genius of the client’s own self-understanding.
This self-understanding matched with an ability to self-educate, freeing the individual from being reliant on others for such needs, is critical to setting up the client as an independent entity to prepare her for the changes that are surely to come, as well as enable her to develop critical skills that must be learned to enable greatest career and personal growth. On average, the client will have 3-5 career changes (some experts say up to 10!) over her working lifetime. To be overly reliant on others, higher education, or any outside means to enable ongoing education and learning is counterproductive. On top of this is the complex nature of work or the proliferation of knowledge and information, as well as the speed at which it is being acquired, must be dealt with properly to ensure not only the clients growth but survival.
As one gains knowledge and experience, ultimately it becomes apparent that most of one’s education is not contained in buildings, books, and teachers. This is a good place to start, but to think that one has gained an ‘education’ simply after twelve to sixteen years of ‘learning’ is highly mistaken. Learning is ongoing, especially in an age of great turbulence, one in which a client will have some three to ten career changes. Thus, one must become more self-reliant and self-accountable and learn how to learn or self-educate for greatest long-term results. Some of our greatest thinkers, doers, movers and shakers were predominantly self-educated: Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Da Vinci, Benjamin Franklin, Steven Jobs, Albert Einstein. Ultimately, education is not institutional but individual.
Even though each program is structured, there is still plenty of leeway to ensure the program is specifically tailored to the clients needs.
